Hydro Impacts
CCRIFC provides technical support to the Ktunaxa and Secwepemc nations on management of fish and aquatic resources in their respective territories, including issues related to hydroelectric developments. As well as working with hydroelectric utility providers on strategic and operational initiatives, CCRIFC also leads a number of research projects for facilities, which include:
- Kinbasket Reservoir Burbot Life History and Habitat Use Assessment (CLBMON-5)
- Kinbasket Reservoir Juvenile Bull Trout Life History and Habitat Use Assessment (CLBMON-6)
- Kinbasket Reservoir Rainbow Trout Life History and Habitat Use Assessment (CLBMON-7)
The objectives of these projects include:
- Assessments of the life history and habitat use characteristics of Burbot, Rainbow Trout, and juvenile Bull Trout in Kinbasket Reservoir;
- Assessment of potential impacts of dam operations on fish species;
- Identification of modifications to dam operations to protect and enhance fish species
